Dorothy, The Tin Man, and a Tornado | 2016

For Halloween this year, I decided it was time we had a family costume. One of my favorite movies of all time is The Wizard of Oz. My kids have never sees it, so strategically I had them watch it in September, hoping they'd like it. I planned to inundate them with the movie a lot..whatever was necessary. To my surprise, they liked it immediately...(I may have been in tears). My son William was so taken with the tornado in the movie...of all things! The entire movie he just kept asking when the tornado was coming back! He spent the next few weeks talking about tornadoes. We checked out tornado books from the library even. Game on, I knew as a family we would be:

The Wicked Witch of the West - me.... fair enough

The Wizard - Dada

Dorothy - Eliza

Tin Man - Henry

a tornado - William :)

I made a compromise with the boys that we would wear our family costume for an early October event and then for Halloween trick-or-treating they could choose whatever superhero they were feeling that day. The event we attended was awesome, at Greenfield Village in Dearborn, MI. However, the tornado costume didn't lend way to William's walking. He immediately fell over! So cute though. We carried that homemade tornado costume around all night while he collected treats. Needless to say I have very few pictures of the family that night so I knew I had to document the kids in their adorable outfits in a well-lit, candy-free location, for my own memories (and to justify costume costs and my own time spent on Mr. tornado's costume).

If you're looking for an awesome etsy vendor for a handmade costume, I bought the Dorothy dress from 4yourlittlestar

Happy Halloween!
